Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and filling holes or cracks to ensure smooth and uniform finishes.
  2. Select and mix paint colors and finishes according to project requirements, using paint mixing equipment and color matching techniques.
  3. Apply paint, stain, varnish, or other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers, or sprayers, ensuring proper coverage, thickness, and adhesion.
  4. Mask and protect adjacent surfaces, fixtures, and trim from paint overspray or spills using masking tape, drop cloths, and protective coverings.
  5. Perform decorative painting techniques, such as faux finishing, stenciling, or texturing, to create desired visual effects and textures.
  6. Repair and touch up painted surfaces as needed, including patching holes, repairing cracks, and blending colors for seamless repairs.
  7. Coordinate with clients, contractors, and project managers to schedule painting projects, discuss specifications, and address any concerns or requests.
  8. Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries, including proper handling of paint and solvents, ventilation, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  9. Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, including cleaning painting equipment, storing materials, and disposing of waste materials responsibly.
  10. Inspect finished work to ensure quality standards are met, address any touch-ups or corrections as needed, and obtain client approval.

Requirements:

  1. Previous experience as a painter or in a related painting trade, with a strong understanding of painting techniques, materials, and equipment.
  2. Proficiency in surface preparation techniques, including sanding, scraping, caulking, and priming, to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality.
  3. Knowledge of paint mixing, color matching, and application methods for various surfaces and finishes, including interior and exterior painting.
  4. Attention to detail and accuracy in applying paint, achieving smooth finishes, and maintaining clean lines and edges.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, following instructions, schedules, and project specifications.
  6. Physical stamina and strength to perform painting tasks, including standing, bending, and lifting, for extended periods.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and contractors.
  8. Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, to accommodate project deadlines and client needs.
  9. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety regulations and procedures, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  10. High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in painting or a related field is a plus.
